USAFA Chapel & The Mining Exchange:
Ryann & Chad

Ryan & Chad’s Incredible Winter Wedding at The Air Force Academy Chapel & The Gold Room at The Mining Exchange Hotel

This was a very bittersweet wedding for us. The rumor is that the Air Force Academy Chapel may close very soon for repairs. Sadly, those repairs may take up to 4 years… or even longer. Ryann & Chad’s gorgeous wedding might have been the last one we photograph there for a very long time. Maybe ever?

I was shocked to learn that the whole chapel was being closed for remodeling. Apparently the stunning soaring spires are made of aluminum, and that metal has started to develop a lot of cracks and leaks. If you look really closely at the ceiling in our shots over the years, you can actually see the patches increasing year after year. I never noticed these darker patches before, but now that I know they are an issue I see them everywhere in the shots. What a bummer! We LOVE taking photos at the Chapel.

Fortunately, the stars seemed to kind of align for us for Ryann & Chad’s wedding: the winter weather was very comfortable, and the combination of golden warm sun and the brilliant white snow made for exquisite photos of the couple. Even more exciting was the realization that the chapel was resplendent in it’s holiday decor. Lastly, it was December and the ceremony took place completely in the dark of night, which we’ve never gotten that look before. That final shot in the chapel with only the cross and spires lit in the background was a perfectly suitable possible farewell to this incredible ceremony venue.

For 15 years the Chapel at The Air Force Academy has provided us with incredible images. We are really going to miss photographing weddings in this famous landmark. Hopefully we’ll be back sooner than 4 years.

Also, please note the closure isn’t official yet, and if you contact Deb at the chapel and manage to get a date booked for your 2019/2020 wedding, CALL US!!
